He popped the question and you said “yes!” Congratulations! You are about to embark on one of the most exciting times of your life, but let’s be honest it can feel very overwhelming too. While you may not be ready to rush down the aisle or set a date, I’m here to help you with a few things to do after you’ve gotten the ring!

1 | Insure Your Ring

Southern brides are accustomed to receiving an heirloom ring from their beau’s family, but this usually means that sparkle has not been appraised in a while! You will want to have a proper appraisal done as soon as possible and then contact an insurance agency to add the ring as a rider to one of your current policies. Accidents happen, and you’ll want to be covered just in case!

2 | Be Engaged!

Truly this is just as, if not more important, than insuring your ring. The idea of “be engaged” means that you relish in the magical, romantic, love-filled moments when you are not knee-deep in the (sometimes stressful) planning process. Yes, people will ask you about your wedding date and venues before you’ve had time to think; however, remember that this moment is about the two of you! Appreciate each second that the two of you are celebrating your love before your big day and planning will be a whole lot sweeter!

3 | Make Plans

Now that you’ve taken a few (or more!) months to enjoy your engagement, it is high time to start making plans. Setting your date, booking must-have vendors you’ve been swooning over on Instagram, and most importantly having a conversation about what you both want for the wedding – these are all important details that should be dealt with in the early stages of planning!

4 | Attend an Expo

Let me start off by saying expos are not for every bride. While it can be overwhelming to greet 100+ vendors in one location, this is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of booking incentives and giveaways many show participants offer. Also, this is a really great to time find décor, beauty, catering inspiration too!

5 | Be Selfish

Recall the saying, “you can’t please everyone?” Keep that in mind when it comes to planning for your wedding day! Everyone will offer his or her unwarranted opinion, but you only get married once so make it count. If you want to book a certain vendor or decide to be more non-traditional than so be it! Never dwell on the negative feedback or reactions, because you’re getting married!! Hooray!
