I originally came into my office this morning to edit because goodness knows I am backed up with that. I was about halfway through when I decided that I just needed to share a little of whats on my heart with yall and now was as good of time as any to start writing this post.
I haven’t shared much of whats really on my heart lately because the truth is that Im just confused by it all. I’ve felt a little lost and confused within my business these last few months.
Part of that was contributed by figuring out how building a business and raising a family are going to coincide together in our household. Its tough enough to figure out a new role as a mom, then add growing a business to that and its a recipe for some serious time of “still just figuring it out”….
I’ve been a little quiet on social media the last few days and I even went an entire week without blogging. It wasn’t for lack of wanting to, as much as it was that my mind was preoccupied. I’ve been doing a bit of “soul searching” if you will and I really just wanted to offer transparency in sharing my heart with you today.
The truth is that I am in a season of not having it all figured out, and thats a bit foreign to me if Im being honest! I am certainly that person that needs it all figured out all the time , so I am way out of my comfort zone here!
Hoary! Its fri-yay, yall!! Whoop whoop!! Do you ever just have those days (or weeks) where nothing quite goes as planned?? You have every intention of hustling in your business and you succeed at that for one day, but then spend the next three days catching up on other life stuff?? Yeah, you know what Im talking about! Well, Im having one of those weeks so this post is going to be short and sweet 🙂
I wanted to share a quick business tip with yall on how I keep all of my to do lists straight!! You’ve got lots going on in your life between the to dos and the ideas and just all of the things!!
As a new mother, I was really struggling with the “work from home mom” adjustment. I was used to being able to work from sun up to sundown if I wanted and when I started one project, it was my decision whether to work till it was finished or close up shop early.
I quickly learned that those days of being in control of my own schedule had passed after I finished maternity leave and began working again with a little one to also take care of throughout the day.
First, let me say that it is late and Henley isn’t sleeping super soundly tonight so I’m probably not going to proof read this again. If you find a few typos, forgive me! “Grace not perfection” and “Mom first then boss” and all that jazz 😉
Now let me start this post by defending it before it begins. I am not writing this post will ill intentions. I am simply writing this to be informative because there is a huge misconception happening out there and I want to set the record straight. I am not writing this post to anyone in particular, but instead, I am writing it to everyone in general.
Photography businesses can be intimidating. Not only is equipment expensive, and not only is it a learning process to interact with clients, put yourself out there, and learn how to work a camera with a ton of buttons on it- but it can also be confusing because you may not even know what basics you need to set yourself up for success!
Over the last few weeks, I’ve shared a blog with my top five tips for new photographers and my top five tips for finding great education on a budget! Today I want to share a few must haves for your new business!!
I was absolutely planning to post this on Friday, but whats that saying?? Grace, not perfection?? Yeah, that- I lived that out instead of just talking about it- which meant that this post is now airing on Monday instead and I’m completely ok with that!
Friday before last I chatted with yall and shared my top five tips for someone thats just starting their business in this industry. <<What did you think about it?? I’d love to know and also hear any other questions you may have that I can help with, so shoot me an email to abbyhudsonphoto@gmail.com !!>>
To follow up with that previous post, I wanted to talk to yall about education on a budget!! We hear that education is so important!! I personally can attest to that because a majority of the money I made my first year of booking was spent on educational content and I know that it was such a good decision for my business!
One of the questions that I have been asked the most by other photographers so far in 2017 is “What tips do you have for someone just starting out??” This is a loaded question because a lot of times, its not just one big ticket to success, but instead its a lot of small accomplishments here and there that lead to that success!
I figured that if a handful of people are emailing me and asking this question, then there are problem a dozen more just like them that haven’t emailed to ask!! This lead me to create this blog and I really hope that it helps someone out there!!
Its been a few weeks since I posted content specifically for photographers so todays post is one that I hope will be of great help to someone out there!!
Instagram has become such a secret weapon for my business. While it would take hours to share all of my secrets with you and tell you all of the ways that Instagram has actually helped to grow my business, I thought I would share the number one change that I made in using Instagram for business that has been so incredibly beneficial!

I know, I know.. the title sounds kind of scary, right? Or are you confused? “Did she mean to say service or disservice?” … Nope you heard me right. I said disservice!
I’ve noticed a trend in the photography industry and I know deep down that it probably needs to stop. My little blog post may not make much of an impact on the entire industry, but I am hoping that it speaks to at least someone!!
